I want to take this moment to talk about the beautiful soul that is Jonathan Van Ness. Many of you may know him as one of the “Fab Five” from Netflix’s Queer Eye, but his talents don’t stop there. Jonathan is a talented stylist, podcaster, actor, producer, and all-around sweetheart. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to be his friend. With his charming personality and lively humor, he just seems like the sort of person who can bring joy to anyone’s life. Since I doubt I’ll ever be meeting Jonathan in person, I settle for the next best thing–listening to his podcast, Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness.
From topics ranging from politics to psychology and everywhere in-between, Jonathan seems to cover it all. Admittedly curious by nature, Jonathan has said he started this podcast to learn more about the world around him and the things he’s always wondered about. In episodes ranging from thirty minutes to an hour, Jonathan sits down with experts from a wide-range of respective fields to discuss, what I’m calling, Jonathan’s question of the week. You can also find episodes with fellow Fab Five members Tan France, Antoni Porowski, Karamo Brown, and Bobby Berk.
What I love most about Getting Curious is how engaged Jonathan is with his guests. He asks questions and isn’t afraid to ask for more definitions or clarifications of concepts being explained. Essentially, you don’t need to be an expert to follow along with the conversation. I always walk away from an episode having learned something new with a side of renewed perspective. I’ll also add that I enjoy Jonathan’s humor and how excited he can get about a topic. It’s a reminder to hold on to or revive that eagerness to learn that exists within us all. The world would be better off if we did.
